RSICC CODE PACKAGE CCC-673

1. NAME AND TITLE

LINSED: 1D Multireach Sediment Transport Model.

2. CONTRIBUTORS

Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee through the Energy Science and technology Software Center, Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

3. CODING LANGUAGE AND COMPUTER

FORTRAN IV; IBM360 (C00673I036000).

4. NATURE OF PROBLEM SOLVED

LINSED consists of a driver program coupled with the SEDTRN model of sediment transport for a rectangular stream channel to allow simulation of sediment transport in a one-dimensional multi-reach channel system. The LINSED model can accept specification of a branching channel system of up to nine nominally homogeneous segments (reaches). Sediment input to each reach from external sources along the reach is permitted.

5. METHOD OF SOLUTION

LINSED uses a steady-state sediment transport simulation methodology based upon work by R.A. Bagnold, which includes Manning's equations to determine flow rate and an extension to Stokes' law to permit calculation of particulate fall velocity in both the viscous and inertial particle settling regions. Sediment is separated conceptually into three components: resident sediment in the stream bed, sediment in transit as bed load, and sediment in transit as suspended load. Each of these components is partitioned into as many as 12 size classes of logarithmically varying size ranges.

6. RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS

None noted.

7. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

Execution time on the IBM360/91 is approximately 0.04 second of CPU time per reach per time-step.

8. COMPUTER HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

50,000 bytes of memory are required on an IBM mainframe.

9. COMPUTER SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

LINSED was developed under OS/360 (IBM360); OS/303x (IBM303x). A Fortran IV compiler is required.
