Minutes of RPSD October 30, 1995

Present:
Nolan Hertel, John Poston, Peggy Emmett, Bryan Broadhead,
Dom Napolitano, Jennifer Tanner, Bill Urban, Chris Eberle,
Leon West, Guy Estes, Dick Cacciapouti, Dan Ingersoll,
Bernadette Kirk, Bob Little, Ray Klann, Ken Jha, Bob Roussin,
Bill Urban, Don Dudziak, Nick Tsoulfanidis

The minutes of the Summer 1996 meeting (with a minor amendment
as proposed by Lee Carter to B. Kirk) were approved.

Nick Tsoulfanidis received the division's Distinguished Service
Award.

Don Dudziak received the division's Professional Excellence Award.

Chairman's Report:
A request to help a Russian scientist financially was received.

RERF (Radiation Effects) volunteers were needed.

Vice-Chair's report:
There will be a newsletter in the near future.

Treasurer's Report (Attachment II)
Blizard Scholarship is paid directly out of the endowment, according
to Christian Krapp.

Program Committee (Attachment III)
The Oak Ridge Section will host the 1998 Topical.

170 papers were submitted, 167 were accepted at the April 1996
review.  The registration fee for the 1996 topical will be $325.00.  
There will be workshops on TORT and FLUKA and also an MCNP tutorial.

Honors and Awards:
Bill Urban said that there are 3 papers vying for the Best Paper
Award at this meeting.

Membership:
Jennifer Tanner is trying very hard to get National to give her an
electronic copy of the membership.  A list of 11 new members was sent
to Jennifer by National.

Nominating Committee:
The slate of candidates is in Attachment IV.  The slate was approved.

Standards:
Bill Hopkins presented the new list of members of ANS 6 (Attachment V).

Benchmarks:
Bob Roussin said that the SINBAD database continues to be in
development.  The package will be distributed by RSIC in the future.

Blizard Scholarship
Dan Ingersoll said that this is the first year that the scholarship
is granted.  Michael Cantaloub got the award.  Current balance is 
$14,340.50.  Dan suggested that there should be a standing committee
to handle the grant.  Current members are Ingersoll, Poston and 
Hertel.  Membership should be rotated.

Health Physics Society (HPS) Liaison:
HPS has 45% of the membership that ANS has.  HPS is in good
financial shape and is very strong operationally.
Bob Roussin suggested that RPSD ask HPS to co-sponsor the 1998
Topical.  West said this is a very good possibility.

NCRP
Nomination process is underway.  John Poston wil need resumes of
candidates who are nominated.  Leon West nominated Nick Tsoulfanidis.
The nomination was approved by the board.

New business:
The Rockwell Award will be given at the 1996 Topical.  Norman Schaeffer
is the awardee.  Hertel suggested that the registration fee be waived 
for the awardee.

An ANS document entitled "Application of Electronic Communications"
 was discussed (Attachment VI).
The board agreed that this is the way ANS should go.

Copies of the Application Guideline for Presentation of ANS
Professional Development courses were distributed (Attachment VII).

Division priorities and directions were brought up.  Bill Urban said
that RPSD has been successful in hosting topicals.

Next meeting will be at the June 1996 at the same time.
